Increase The Peace, Vol 2

Sunday Best Recordings proudly presents the 2nd in our series of Increase The Peace digital compilation albums – designed to showcase our latest and greatest cuts, plus a few gems from our back catalogue, and all at a bargain price to help people can get a flavour of what we’re all about.

This edition kicks off with Soft Little Sound a classic track from Lazyboy’s 2004 album Penguin Rock.  Lazyboy is Sunday Best head honcho Rob da Bank’s alter-ego alongside multi-instrumentalist and producer extraordinaire Dan Carey (who has just finished producing the new Franz Ferdinand album and has worked with Hot Chip, Kylie, CSS, Sly & Robbie and Lily Allen in the past). A new Lazyboy album is due later this year so this acts as a wonderful reminder of what we’ve been waiting so patiently for!

Next up is Say You’ll Be Mine by Kitty Daisy & Lewis – the B side to their Going Up The Country single and a track many would argue should have been on their debut self-titled album, particularly as it was written by Lewis.  This is followed by The PolarBear P.S. version of dan le sac Vs Scroobius Pip’s phenomenal Letter From God To Man.  A digital-only B side to the single release, this version of the track sees Dan drop the Radiohead sample in favour of a stripped down stuttering beat and sees spoken word maestro PolarBear add his own P.S. ending to the track, lamenting how God’s ‘funny side’ often gets overlooked. Genius.

Hugh Frost AKA Sportsday Megaphone steps up next with his recent single and album highlight Meet Me In Middle – a dazzling, bedroom-disco evocation of young love and compromise. With a bit of luck there’ll be a beautifully animated video for this tune coming your way very soon (that right Hugh?!).  Kid Carpetgraced 2008 with his wonderful 2nd album Casio Royale and here we have the album’s epic opening track Hitting The Wall remixed by Scotland’s finest electro heads, Cruiser, who turn the track all gospel and goose-pimply!

Christopher D Ashley picked up props in 2008 for debut album Cruel Romantics from the likes of the NME (“Sluttish warehouse electro from London’s coolest new producer”) and Music Week (“Something quite special”) and here we bring you album track We Ain’t Though for your listening pleasure.  Grand National released their much anticipated 2nd album A Drink & A Quick Decisionis early 2008 and Cut By The Brakes was the 3rd single from it that never happened. Which is a shame as it’s sensational!

More dan le sac Vs Scroobius Pip goodness comes in the form of the Sunday Best Cosmic Dub of their Thou Shalt Always Kill anthem.  It’s the first in a series of Sunday Best remixes produced by one of our in-house musical whizz-kids.  Next up is a special dub version of You’ll Never Find featuring Rodney P from the Dub Pistols brilliant 2007 album Speakers & Tweeters. The Dubs return in the coming months with a new single Back To Daylight featuring Ashley Slater (of Freakpower fame) and a brilliant new album entitled Rum & Coke. Be prepared to be blown away … again.

And finally, we come to Kid Carpet’s charming Cowboy. One of the many highlights from his live shows and also the closing track on his Casio Royale album. And perhaps a lesson for some in these ‘credit crunch’ (yawn) times…
