If? When? Why? What? Howdi…
Howdi are your new favourite band, a band that can fearlessly straddle the divide between pop and dance and still retain their credibility, self respect and above all, their own wardrobe; there is no room for svengali’s around these parts. Howdi isLee & Amelia – a precocious duo from the North of England, who in conjunction with the production skills of the irrepressible Riton (plus additional mixing magic from Ewan Pearson) – make a magnificent melting pot of sound that takes in the Human League, Giorgio Moroder and all other bastions of the good pop aesthetic.
Their debut double AA single ‘The Number One Song In Heaven / Play Dead’, due late October on Sunday Best, see’s Howdi take on Sparks’ classic ‘The Number One Song In Heaven’. Before you even dignify it with a comparison -forget the sonic abortion/mutilation that is British Whale – ‘The Number One Song In Heaven’ is defiantly the best Sparks cover you will hear this year – Perfectly joining the dots between too cool for school and mental Euro-House smash…It is bold, brave and wonderful.
Its joined here by ‘Play Dead’, which in extended dub format takes Howdi out onto the dancefloor, and the 7″ edit which will magnetize even the most frigid of FM dials. Put purely and simply… Two of the catchiest, hum-able, danceable ditties you will hear over the coming months.
This may be their debut single, but Howdi have already featured on Sunday Best having contributed the wonderful ‘Kiss & Tell’ to our “Increase The Peace” compilation series.
