B-Sides, Remixes & Rarities
Grand National
Released: 30 April 2007
album: SBESTCD15
The album features every Grand National track ever released that didn’t feature on their magnificent ‘Kicking The National Habit’ debut album. Kicking off with ‘Your Rules Obey’ and ‘Sixty Seven Up’, a couple of melancholy tracks where shimmering guitars provide the backdrop for Rudd’s laid back vocals. The album moves into more retro territory, belying the pair’s time spent on the west coast of America, with the likes of ‘Leaves’ and ‘Rabbit Facts’. ‘Criminal’s disco jangling leads seamlessly into The Glimmers’ epic bass-heavy re-rub of ‘Playing In The Distance’, while Sasha’s electronically-spiked version of ‘Talk Amongst Yourselves’ from his much lauded ‘Involver’ album further highlights the array of influences that go into a Grand National record. Plus, for those of you digitally minded, the exclusive iTunes version of the album features the never ever before released Fug remix of ‘Talk Amoungst Yourselves’!
‘B-Sides, Remixes & Rarities’ is an inspirational blend of bittersweet melodies and witty introspection, a perfect package of Lyddon and Rudd’s strangely contemporary nostalgia.
