Lemonade is Callan Clendenin, Alex Pasternak and Ben Steidel, a Brooklyn-based three piece.
Since the band’s first UK show at Stag & Dagger in May, the summer of 2009 has seen the trio wow spectators and receive media acclaim. The euphoric, acid-bleached clattering of their debut single Big Weekend made an indelible impact on the playlists of BBC Radio 1’s Nick Grimshaw and Edith Bowman in August and made way for a few very special live shows to draw summer to a close, culminating in Lemonade’s explosive performance at this year’s Bestival.
Now, the scene is set for the band to release their follow-up single to an expectant UK audience…
Released on 12″ and download, Bliss Out is Lemonade’s most unrestrained track to date. A tempting Liquid Liquid-esque drift of bass and percussion start the track and, as tension builds, a smattering of rave stabs pepper the verse as Callan delivers meandering psychedelic vocals. Then at breaking point, the track suddenly bursts, spewing out a surge of multicoloured chimes and lo-fi jungle breaks and as the frenetic live drums wash over the syncopated riffs, the crescendo reaches a monumental high. It’s Rave, but not as we know it!
The single comes backed with remixes from cosmic duo Frisvold & Lindbæk,Gold Panda, deep house new-comer Espimas and Sunday Best.
Lemonade’s self-titled debut album was released on 14th September 2009 on CD, LP and download to great critical acclaim. Recorded and mixed by Chris Coady (TV on the Radio, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, !!!) at Stay Gold in Brooklyn, the album takes in everything from Grime, Dubstep, Drone & Dancehall to Acid House, whilst percussionist Alex’s Latin and Arab rhythms and Bassist Ben’s low-slung, hypnotic bass grooves add an organic lilt that brings the Lemonade sound out of the realms of straight ‘Dance’ music and into a compelling, credible and original infusion of all their influences…
“The middle ground between the tribal delirium of Gang Gang Dance and the good-times disco-funk of Friendly Fires” NME
