The Big Dream (Remixes EP)

‘The Big Dream’, the second album from David Lynch is one of the year’s most acclaimed releases, with everyone from NME and Time Out to Evening Standard and Loud and Quiet lauding its striking singularity and extraordinary breadth of vision.

Now, with 2013 coming to a close, Lynch has unveiled a gloriously deluxe version of the record. Amongst the Digital Deluxe download available from December 16th and the Super Deluxe limited edition box set out January 27th, there are four brand new remixes which Beatport are selling now as an exclusive remix EP.

Individual interpretations of four of the tracks from ‘The Big Dream’ have been put in the capable hands of Bastille, Hot Since 82, Venetian Snares and Yttling Jazz.

Chart toppers Bastille have transformed Lynch‘s ‘Are You Sure‘ into an atmospheric and emotive track, complete with a deep and dramatic drum beat and laced with choral harmonies. Bastille front man Dan Smith said that this was their favourite track from ‘The Big Dream’, and he was honoured to remix and add his own vocals to it.

Up and coming producer Hot Since 82 has come up with his own scorching interpretation of ‘Wishin’ Well’. Renowned across the electronic music scene for his distinctive bass heavy production, Hot Since 82’s ‘Wishin Well’ remix is a catchy and propelling house track. Premiered on Mixmag on Monday December 2nd, the remix has already racked up over 20,000 plays on soundcloud.

Next up we have a remix of the album’s title track, ‘The Big Dream’, from Venetian Snares. Known for producing music in strange and slightly discombobulated time signatures, Aaron Funk aka Venetian Snares successfully makes ‘The Big Dream’ all the more haunting. Lynch’s distorted vocals combined with the Venetian Snares production echo around you in a cacaphony of sound.

Finally, the Yttling Jazz band have remixed ‘We Rolled Together’. Yttling Jazz is the brainchild of Bjorn Yttling, better known as one third of Peter Bjorn and John. Yttling has built on the existing production of ‘We Rolled Together’ and bought in an intense string section, making the finished track a more uplifting version than its predecessor.
